Chandigarh : The CLP leader Charanjit Singh Channi termed the budget a totally directionless and just a book of lies with a further accusation that the government was playing with the sentiments of the people of Punjab for the last nine years, and again this time.
“It is an effort to camouflage the reality going by the fact that it made no mention of even the total debt on the state. The total debt on the state will rise to 1,24,553 crore by this year-end and when this government will leave the office the debt will rise to 1,40,000 crore, he alleged, mentioning that, “similarly, revenue deficit last year was 6,393 crore and now risen to 7,561 crore, increase of 1,200 crore.”
Channi said that while the finance minister announced five-six new schemes but there was no detail about resource mobilization, he claimed.
“Since the last so many years there is no unemployment allowance, no scholarships, no laptops, no money for atta dal, no new jobs, no new industry, no pakka houses etc. today every Punjabi is under debt of Rs 44,000 which will rise to Rs 51,100 by next year,” worried Channi.
He also drubbed the FM for keeping just 6 crore for the drugs, a menace disturbing the state.
Channi said the budget had to be seen in the context of CAG report according to which fresh loans are raised by the government to repay earlier loans. He slammed the budget as just accounting exercise in the election year. He said the Akali Dal government had already given up as there was nothing much for the people.
“Nothing specific has been announced for unemployed people of punjab who are waiting for jobs after govt. assured to give 1.14 lakh jobs.
The SC students who have been given scholarships are forced to pay the fee which is reimbursed by the government. It is resulting in increase of dropout rate since they don’t have the money to pay,” Channi added.
Phones of 17 congress leaders are being tapped: CLP leader
Charanjit Singh Channi, holding a press meet, accused the SAD-BJP government of tapping the phones of at least 17 leaders of Congress party.
“All our information is being leaked and we have information that it is because of our phones being tapped by SAD-BJP,” Channi charged, adding that he would raise this issue in the Vidhan sabha on Wednesday.
“All the conversations of our leaders including me are being leaked and this cannot happen without phone tapping. Sources have revealed us that Punjab government was doing this due to which govt came to know about our strategies,” he claimed.
