Chandigarh : The Akalis and Congress leaders on Saturday came together to hit at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for ‘reverting’ his stand on the SYL issue. Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia termed Kejriwal a ‘chameleon number one’ of Indian politics, the PPCC president Amarinder Singh reminded him that one can’t continue for long to run with the hare and hunt with the hound and keep on fooling people in his characteristic way. Lashing out at the AAP national convener, Bikram said that Punjabis had all along suspected Kejriwal’s intentions when he had supported Punjab’s views on the SYL canal keeping in view his past behaviour.

He said this suspicion turned into a reality when the AAP convenor issued a statement on Friday that there should not be any politics over water and that every state should get river water. PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh also took a dig at him saying: “The moment Haryana government showed you the mirror, you backed out in your characteristic style and are now saying that there should be no politics over water.” “Your stand and statements should at least be consistent enough that they don’t change so fast and so frequently,” he said. “I have been advising you that you need to come out and look beyond your municipal mindset if you really want to fiddle with politics in Punjab,” Amarinder suggested.

Asserting that this was nothing new for the AAP chief, Bikram said that earlier also Kejriwal had changed his stance according to what suited him at a particular time. Majithia said that Kejriwal’s cowardly behaviour was in direct contrast to the leadership shown by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in de-notifying the land acquired for construction of the canal so that it could be transferred back to farmers.

Poster on SYL released

Chandigarh: Reiterating that the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal was planned against time-tested and universally accepted Riparian principle with an eye on looting the scarce water resources of Punjab, the Sikh hardliner bodies on Saturday released a poster on the contentious SYL. The poster carries the names and photographs of hard core militant group Babbar Khalsa head Sukhdev Singh Babbar, former Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh and present Chief Minister Parkash Singh in a hierarchical manner.
