Chandigarh : To counter the foreign assets case of the Income Tax (IT) Department against his son, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh today produced documents of the HSBC Bank authorities issued at Geneva and Dubai.
He said the entire case was not only legally untenable but was based on forged documents.
Producing documents issued by HSBC Bank, Geneva, on September 6, 2011, he said the “purported account” shown against the name of his wife and son was shown having “zero” balance. “How is it possible to have an account that too in a Swiss bank without any balance?” he asked.
“No blackmailing will be allowed. I will seek quashing of the complaint in a higher court. Let them do what they want as they have no genuine document in their possession. We will take legal recourse and seek legal protection wherever required,” said the PPCC chief.
He termed the case as the outcome of political vendetta being raised in the election year by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who wanted to start a media trial.
Questioning the timing of the IT complaint, Capt Amarinder asked why out of 1,200 persons, the IT Department was only raising Preneet Kaur and Raninder’s names.
The MP from Amritsar said the next step would be to try to make him busy as the Assembly election in Punjab was round the corner. “Last time, they tried to rake up the issue in the 2014 General Election. But Jaitley lost,” he said.
Referring to the issue of the Jacaranda Trust India and Mulwala Holdings Limited, Capt Amarinder produced a copy of another letter issued by HSBC Dubai saying there was not and never had been any accounts in the name of Jacaranda Trust India or Mulwala Holdings Limited in any of the branches of the HSBC Financial Services (Middle East) Limited.
