Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday ridiculed and dismissed the allegations levelled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against his son Raninder Singh about having seven companies in foreign countries. “It is amusing that the Akali-BJP and the AAP have found a common cause and a common enemy in me,” he observed. “It seems that Finance Minister Arun Jaitely proposes and AAP disposes,” he added.

“It is a classic case of enemy’s enemy becoming a friend,” he remarked, while pointing out, that the Akali-BJP, particularly Jaitley, and the AAP had started seeing a common enemy in him. Talking to media persons, Capt Amarinder referred to the so called ‘revelation’ made by the AAP leaders, which, he said, were actually from the I-T Department’s challan, apparently provided to them by the department at Jaitley’s behest, which in turn was ‘based on false, fabricated and fictitious information derived from a stolen document.’ He said that the leaders who made these allegations included two comedians, a rejected and dejected politician and a failed journalist. He said that his regret was that one of his old friends Sucha Singh Chhotepur also became party to it when he knew the truth too well himself. “After having failed to generate the desired impact by getting a false complaint lodged in a Ludhiana court against my son, the Union Finance Minister is now trying to use the good offices of the AAP, which has mastered the art of spreading lies, against me,” he said.

“Their aim is not to prove any point, but to create a false perception as, otherwise, they have nothing which they can use against me in the campaign,” he disclosed, while adding, “they apparently assume that by the time these allegations would be proved wrong they may have already achieved their purpose of defaming me during run up to the elections.” “But we are not going to take it lying down and we will drag them to court for criminal defamation,” he added.

BSP faces jolt, 12 leaders join Cong

Jalandhar : Protesting against the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati’s decision of going alone in the ensuing assembly elections, two prominent BSP leaders from Doaba along with others joined the Congress on Tuesday. BSP leaders Jarnail Singh Nangal, who was party state general secretary from Phagwara and Samittar Singh Sikri from Sham Chaurasi along with ten others had blamed the BSP Punjab leadership of ‘secret understanding’ with the ruling SAD-BJP alliance.

They maintained that the BSP worked in favour of the Akalis and fielded candidates on all the 117 assembly seats in Punjab. “BSP was working in alliance with the Akalis, which formed two consecutive governments of SAD-BJP in the state. As the BSP ate the Dalit votes of the congress, the Akalis won with a thumping majority,” they said. Nangal quit the party three days ago. Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh along with senior party leaders welcomed the BSP leaders into the party.
