Jalandhar : Upping the ante against senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar for his anti-party activities, Congress leaders from Jalandhar have decided to take up the demand of Brar’s ouster from the party with Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh.

Capt Amarinder was all set to visit Jalandhar for a workers meet on April 2, where Congress leaders including the district urban and rural presidents with their supporters would speak to the party president to take a ‘timely decision’ against Brar.

Recently, Congress leaders from Jalandhar had released a strongly-worded statement condemning Brar, a former Congress Working Committee (CWC) worker for airing his views against Capt Amarinder and the party on social media platform like Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. Brar had stated that Congress was likely to finish third in the assembly elections 2017, which drew flak from Congress leaders in the party.

Talking to Daily Post, senior Congress leader and ex-Transport Minister Avtar Singh Henry was direct in his attack on Brar and said that he should be ‘chucked out’ of the party. “I am going to take up Brar’s issue with Capt Amarinder. We are really fed up with Jagmeet Brar for continuously indulging in anti-party activities. Brar calls himself a senior party leader but instead of setting a standard of discipline for others, he was demoralising the party rank and file”, he said.

Henry also maintained that if Brar has some issues, he should approach the All India Congress Committee (AICC), party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi. “By criticising the state Congress, Brar was defying the directives of party high command. Whenever, Brar feels that he was not getting anything from the Congress, he starts speaking against the party”, he added.

District Congress (Urban) president Rajinder Beri also said that given the way Brar was speaking against the party, it seems that he was eyeing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the ensuing assembly elections. “We would demand Brar’s ouster from the party with Capt Amarinder, which was must at this juncture when the party was gearing up for elections. At times, Brar speaks in favour of AAP, then the Akalis and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was better to get rid of Brar instead of facing party’s criticism at every platform”, he said.

Even District Congress (Rural) president Jagbir Brar has also maintained in his statement that whenever Congress was performing better, Jagmeet Brar came up with anti-party remarks, which were damaging. Among others who, raised the same demand included senior Congress leaders Amarjit Singh Samra, Satnam Singh Kainth, leader of opposition in Municipal Corporation Jagdish Raj Raja were vocal about their demand of Brar’s exit from the Congress soon.
