Bathinda: Extending support to the agitating jewelers, the Congress leader Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday visited them at their dharna site in the city.

Accusing the BJP government in Centre of being anti-traders, Manpreet accused that wherever and whenever BJP comes in powers the businessmen get ruined. He also accused the SAD-BJP government in state for not giving any special relaxation to the business community.

Addressing that gathering, Manpreet claimed that in the days ahead he would go to Delhi to join the agitation of jewelers there and assured to be a part of the delegation going to submit the memorandum in this regard.

Expressing his viewpoint, a former Finance Minister of Punjab Manpreet further claimed that the government could easily roll back the excise duty in consideration of the stern demand of the business community.

Speaking on the SYL canal issue, Manpreet termed it an election stunt of the SAD-led state government and claimed that the next government in Punjab would be of Congress only.

Asked about Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s allegation that Manpreet was always a B-team of Congress, he said: “Her victory margin, reduced from one lakh to few thousands, shows it clearly that her defeat was quite obvious had the Akalis not used money and official machinery in a blatant manner. So, these are just political statements, otherwise she knows the strength of Manpreet and Congress very well.”

Questioned about the poll strategist Parshant Kishor’s involvement in Punjab, Manpreet said: “He is a capable person to help the Congress win the Punjab polls but the real face of our party is Captain Amarinder Singh and all are rallying behind him.”
