BATHINDA: As Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh effectively granted party leader Manpreet Badal’s wish to contest against his uncle in the upcoming assembly polls, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Manpreet said he was “not afraid of the test” and “would yet again shatter people’s misconceptions”.

His reaction came also over a statement by the CM’s daughter-in-law, Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who had said that Manpreet “should be prepared to lose even his security deposit” if he were to contest against the CM. Harsimrat, who had defeated Manpreet to remain Bathinda MP in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, was speaking at a sangat darshan (meet the people) programme in Sivia village of Bathinda district.

“Earlier too, Manpreet Singh Badal has been rejected in the LS polls and in the 2012 assembly elections. Now if he is keen to contest from Lambi, he will face the worst defeat of all times,” Harsimrat said.

Later when contacted, Manpreet used an Urdu couplet to rebut Harsimrat’s statement: “Imtehan ki ghadi aan padi hai toh koi dar nahi… Hum ne sau baar zamaane ke bharam ko toda hai. (No fear I have of testing times; the world’s misconceptions I’ve shattered a hundred times before.)”
