JALANDHAR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) vice-president Tejinder Bittu met Congress national vicepresident Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Wednesday evening.
Discussing with him issues concerning Punjab for nearly 20 minutes, Bittu urged him to push for more tickets for non-Jat Sikhs in the coming assembly elections, stated a press release on Thursday.
Citing that this section had a sizeable presence in Punjab, with more than 12% votes among the total population, Bittu said giving them a bigger role was important for Captain Amarinder Singh to lead the party to victory in the state. “Congress has ignored non-Jat Sikhs so far. Realising the importance of this section will help the party,” said Bittu.
Giving his feedback on the chances of Aam Aadmi Party in the state, the PPCC general secretary told Rahul that once that part announces its candidates, those left out are expected to revolt.
