Anand Sikri, president Ludhiana Jewellers’ Association (LJA) said, “We will be intensifying our fight against the proposed excise duty. It seems that the government is in deep slumber as it has been ignoring our genuine demands for over a month now. They do not appear to be concerned about the losses of jewellers which are running into crores on a daily basis.” Sarjeevan Dheer, the patron of Punjab Swarankar Sangh, said the daily revenue losses to the state can be pegged at ` 5 crore and mounting with every passing day, but the government has not taken the issue seriously. Apart from the revenue losses, the adverse effect on the thousands of staff members working in jewellery shops as well as customers have also failed to draw government’s attention towards the gravity of the matter.

Manoj Dhanda, a senior member of the Ludhiana Jewellers’ Association said Captain Amarinder Singh has assured us that Congress would extend every possible help to the jewellers’ fraternity.
