Ludhiana : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amarinder Singh said here today that no one could defeat the Congress except the party itself, while admitting to infighting in the party.
On senior party leader Bir Devinder Singh’s expulsion, Amarinder said the former Deputy Speaker knew that he had no future in the Congress. The Congress has decided not to allot the party ticket to those who have lost the elections at least thrice, he added.
During separate meetings with workers of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Urban and DCC Rural, the Captain warned that those found guilty of indiscipline would be strictly dealt with.
Meanwhile, factionalism in the party came to the fore during the party workers’ meeting with the PPCC chief, even though DCC leaders and Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu are learnt to made efforts to contain groupism prior to the Captain’s visit.
Addressing workers of the DCC (Urban), Amarinder said: “If you are united, no one can defeat you. If you lack discipline, the Akalis will come to power again.”
The former CM said he would ensure that those who failed to get the Congress ticket in the Assembly elections were accommodated as chairpersons in various corporations, boards and trusts.
The PPCC chief expressed concern over the “deteriorating law and order situation” in Punjab. He lamented that even after several days of the killing of Namdhari matriarch Mata Chand Kaur, the police were still clueless.
During an interaction with mediapersons at the residence of a party leader, he said the Shiromani Akali Dal was whipping up emotive issues for the sake of petty politics.
