Chandigarh : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is set to hold his first state-level interaction with party workers in Zirakpur tomorrow, but he won’t be announcing the much-delayed list of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee’s (PPCC’s) new body.

Sources said the list would be released before PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh leaves for a foreign tour next week.

A senior party leader said Rahul would listen to party workers and respond to the issues and problems raised by them. There will be no speech by any leader, sources said. “Though the seating arrangement is for 2,500 people, we are expecting almost double the number,” said Randeep Surjewala, in-charge of the communication cell of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The event is being managed by the party’s poll strategist, Prashant Kishor. Apart from bringing various groups of the state Congress on one platform, he is trying to bridge the gap between the party leadership and the workers at the grassroots level in the run-up to the Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, about 234 PPCC delegates were invited for Rahul’s meet at the last minute after pressure mounted on the high command. Some of the annoyed leaders sent text messages to AICC leaders, forcing the organisers to accommodate them.
