Jalandhar : A day ahead of the visit of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi at Zirakpur tomorrow, former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today said Capt Amarinder Singh was the “captain” of the party and the sooner he is formally announced the CM candidate, the better it would be.

“We are completely united now and there is no factionalism. Captain is an experienced leader and it is a right time to start projecting him as the chief ministerial candidate of the party,” Bhattal said here today.

She justified the ongoing promotion campaign in the name of Capt Amarinder by his poll strategist Prashant Kishor. “The entire Congress is now rallying behind him. He is our Captain,” she said, appreciating the campaign and adding, “Kishor has been meeting all leaders. He met me also thrice and discussed issues with me.”

Bhattal justified the expulsion of Congress leaders Jagmeet Brar and Bir Devinder Singh saying that any differences of opinion should not have gone out and the maintenance of discipline was also required.

She raised the issue of the alleged Rs 12,000 crore foodgrain procurement scam. “They have never checked any godowns and never got any surveys done. Now that the scam has come to light, they have begun holding their meetings,” she said.
