Chandigarh : In the run up to the 2017 Assembly elections, the Congress leadership will focus on the involvement of grass-roots party workers.
A day after party workers told AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi that they were being neglected, all frontline leaders in the state unit have been asked to chalk out district-wise and block-wise interactions with the workers to address their concerns.
Ambika Soni, campaign committee incharge for Punjab, during the yesterday’s interaction “Punjab di gal, Rahul de nal” between Rahul and party workers, clearly stated that she would make a list of dedicated and hard working block-level workers. Such workers would be actively involved in the campaign process in the coming days. Soni has asked the party high command to relieve her of the responsibility of other states so that she could concentrate on Punjab, it is learnt.
PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh too has been asked to coordinate with state leaders regarding the programme at the district and block levels.
“The matter regarding the feedback from workers being ignored had been reaching the party high command earlier as well, but yesterday’s interaction programme of Rahul Gandhi brought to the fore the low morale of the workers. It needs to be taken seriously,” admitted a senior leader.
The workers involvement is now being sought at all levels. Party’s poll planner Prashant Kishor too has conveyed the same.
A party worker from Fazilka told Rahul as to how the status of party workers had lowered from Indira Gandhi’s time to now. The AICC vice-president too made an observation that the party’s debacle in Rajasthan and Delhi was due to the fact that the workers were not being heard.
