SANGRUR: Close on the heels of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi not announcing state Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh’s name as party’s chief ministerial candidate, Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann said the AAP would declare its MLA nominees and CM candidate by July.

Talking to the media here on Sunday, Mann said Rahul’s silence on Amarinder’s name as the CM candidate shows the Congress is leaderless in the state. “Not only Rahul, but the entire Congress brass has lost confidence in him. Amarinder is not even the captain of Congress, leave Punjab. He is a substitute player in the Congress team and is of no use now.”

Mann said the AAP has made its stand clear on the SutlejYamuna Link (SYL) canal and is favouring Punjab. He said the SYL canal was the brainchild of the Congress and Akalis.

He said the AAP has decided to constitute a 16-member campaign committee for assembly polls of which 14 would be from Punjab. The committee would act as an observer and will visit every constituency where volunteers would be asked to write their favourite name on a paper chit. The committee would deposit paper chits at the party’s state head office. The names would be given to a screening committee having five members, including Durgesh Pathak, Sanjay Singh, Bhagwant Mann, Sadhu Singh and Sucha Singh Chhotepur. The screening committee would have all rights to reject or accept names. The shortlisted names would be finalised by the national committee of the party, added Mann.

Mann said, the election manifesto would be prepared by a separate committee of experts after April 25 and would focus on corruption, unemployment, farming and industrial sector, added Mann.

On the recent food grain scam, Mann said the farmers take loan on high interest rates to feed the nation but they are not getting anything in return. The Akali-BJP government is selling that crop to fill its own pockets.
