Jakhar files complaint with VB, seeks FIR against Punjab govt

Chandigarh : The opposition Congress led by Abohar MLA Sunil Kumar Jakhar on Wednesday filed a complaint against the Punjab government accusing it guilty of stealing Rs 12,000-crore food grains from the state’s godowns.

The complaint has been filed with the Flying Squad-1, Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Phase VIII, Mohali.

“As it is a case of theft and there is a designated officer to register the case so rather than going to the DGP (VB), we submitted the document with the SHO of the VB police station,” Jakhar clarified.

In the written complaint, Jakhar demanded the registration of case against the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues, the officials concerned and the heads of the department concerned for active connivance in embezzlement and misappropriation of funds by diverting the stocks of food grains with the means of committing theft.

Giving reference of the issue pointed by two constitutional bodies- the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India and the Reserve Bank Of India (RBI), Jakhar alleged: “As many as 3,319 trucks/commercial vehicles were selected by CAG for random checking of which the CAG failed to trace 3,232 vehicles, And of the 87 vehicles which were traced, 15 turned out to be scooters/ motorcycles/cars etc.”

While asking the SHO concerned to register a case in this regard, the former leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar further alleged: “The money gained from this scam is now being used for running Tirath Yatra scheme.” He demanded the guilty to be put behind bars.

Jakhar was accompanied by Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu and other party leaders.
