Chandigarh : A former cricketer, comedian and three-time MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu secured a berth in the Rajya Sabha through nomination on Friday with the President of India giving his assent on the move of Bharatiya Janata Party-led Narendra Modi government. The development comes with varied reactions from the society, looking at the things with different perspectives.
While a section takes it as a regain for Sidhu, who was sidelined in Punjab politics as well as in the state BJP unit for long, because of his antagonism with the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders. Sidhu’s miss to get the Rajya Sabha seat from the state as a BJP candidate was also perceived as the outcome of his tussle with Akalis.
So, seeing Sidhu reaching Rajya Sabha now, though through the nomination process, has made his followers to boast of his say in the BJP as well as the RSS.
