AMRITSAR: Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi has asked the state government to clear the farmers’ dues for the procured crop by Tuesday or there will be agitations across grain markets and gherao of all its ministers.

After visiting the grain markets of Ajnala and Jandiala Guru on Saturday, he accused chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of issuing false statements that farmers had received their money. “Not a penny has been paid,” he said, adding: “Under the Akali rule, farmers of this advanced agricultural state have been dumping their produce on roads and committing suicide.”

The state CLP leader said Badal earlier blamed the Centre for all the troubles confronting the state “but now his daughterin-law is in the Narendra Modi government, whose treatment of the state’s farmers is the worst”. He said the release of cash credit limit used to be a routine affair before every procurement season but not since the Modi had taken over. He challenged the Aam Aadmi Party to spell out its agricultural policies.
