MANSA: Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Saturday lambasted the Parkash Singh Badal government over delay in release of the cash credit limit (CCL) by the Centre.

Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal with party leaders during a press conference in Mansa on Saturday.

“When our own Kohinoor (farmer) is being robbed, the state government is more perturbed over the trivial issue of ownership of the Kohinoor diamond, which is now with the British,” Bhattal said during a visit to a grain market in Mansa. “Before the general elections, they (ruling SAD) had promised that truckloads of money will be sent to Punjab by the central government if BJP comes to power. Where is that money?” Bhattal was accompanied by Sardulgarh MLA Ajit Inder Singh Mofar and other local leaders.

The Congress leader also downplayed the Aam Aadmi Party’s setting up of help desks in grain markets to review procurement. She said Congress leaders had always visited mandis during the procurement season. “When we were in power, the situation was not like this. There was timely payment and lifting of the grain in every grain market. Akalis just ruined it,” she said.

Bhattal also attacked Delhi chief minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal over the party allegedly giving tickets to “mighty and rich” for the 2017 elections in Punjab.

ON CAPT’S FOREIGN TOUR

Reacting to SAD leader and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur’s comments that Captain Amarinder had been rejected by the Punjabis abroad as he was denied campaigning by the Canadian government, she said: “Her party had to face an embarrassing situation when a shoes was hurled at (Punjab agriculture minister) Tota Singh in New York last year.” Tota had been accused of the pesticides scam in the state.
