JALANDHAR: In its next step to corner the Punjab’s SADBJP government on the issue of drugs, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and poet Kumar Vishwas will launch an anti-drugs campaign on May 8 from Delhi.

Being dubbed as the ‘sharpest of all attacks’ on the ruling alliance in Punjab, the AAP campaign is titled ‘Nasha’ with song “chhad de pudiya jatta, teri gudiya kare pukar” as its theme. Written and composed by Vishwas, the video of the song has been shot to portray different aspects of the drug menace in Punjab.

“The campaign will be launched in Delhi and the issue will be vehemently raised on social networking sites. I will bring the campaign to Punjab by May-end by organising stage shows across the state,” Vishwas told this correspondent from Delhi.

A video teaser of the campaign shows a five-year-girl witnessing her mother being thrashed by the father, who is demanding money for drugs. The mother is seen expressing helplessness, saying there is no money even to buy clothes for the daughter.

Sources said AAP has deliberately chosen Delhi for the launch of the campaign because the idea is to get maximum media coverage.

As per the AAP plan, the earnings through circulation of the song on ‘You Tube’, other online media and stage shows will be given to two NGOs— ‘Jeevan Asha’, formed by US-based NRIs to tackle drugs and ‘Dilbag’, a group of social workers working in the field of de-addiction.

“Many NRIs are ready to back this campaign through liberal donations,” said Vishwas.
