Drug menace can be tackled by promoting sports, says Channi

CHAMKAUR SAHIB: Leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Charanjit Singh Channi has said that sports should be promoted among the youth of Punjab to keep them away from drugs.

Channi was here to inaugurate a cricket and football tournament on Sunday. He said sports is the only way through which energy of youth can be channelised in a proper way.

Lambasting the SAD-BJP government, Channi said during their rein the youth of Punjab have taken to drugs. The government has failed to engage the youth of the state in sports activities.

“The situation today has become so worse that the future of Punjab is at stake,” he added.

On the occasion Congress leader Hans Raj Hans said after forming the government the congress would open one dedicated sports stadium in every village of the state, so as to provide better facilities and infrastructure to the rural youth.
