Bittu demands int’l connectivity for CHD, ASR airports

Chandigarh : Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu on Tuesday drew the attention of the Union Government towards an urgent need of air connectivity between Vancouver and Chandigarh as well as between Toronto and Chandigarh. He also demanded similar air connectivity between Vancouver and Amritsar as well as between Toronto and Amritsar.

Bittu said only a single Air-India plane with weekly flights to both the cities can solve the purpose of connecting them with Amritsar. Similarly, a single Air-India plane with weekly flights to both the cities can solve the purpose of connecting them with Chandigarh.

Lamenting the fact that despite having international airports at Amritsar and Chandigarh in Punjab, NRI’s had to travel at least eight hours by road to and from Delhi to catch an international flight. The recent law-and-order problems in Haryana have added to their safety concerns and ban on diesel-run taxis in Delhi have aggravated their problems, he said.

Bittu also apprised the Union government that on an average one member in each family in Punjab is staying abroad. Majority of them are settled in Canada.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
