Captain condemns murderous attack on Baba Ranjit Singh

Chandigarh : Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday condemned the murderous attack on Baba Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale.
Expressing relief that Baba Ranjit Singh escaped unhurt, the Congress leader mourned the death of another person travelling with him. Former Chief Minister demanded a white paper on the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
Reiterating that Punjab was heading towards ‘jungle raj’, Capt Amarinder said, this reflected very poorly on the law and order situation in the state as the criminals had lost the fear of law. “The law and order situation is going from bad to worse and we are heading from chaos to anarchy under the Akali-BJP regime”, he warned.
Referring to the particular incident of attack on Baba Ranjit Singh, he pointed out that how his car was stopped and then chased by the assailants for four kilometres. “This is unheard and unprecedented”, he remarked, while adding, there was never such an atmosphere of fear prevailing in Punjab.
Expressing alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation, the former Chief Minister said hardly any day passed when there was not a major law and order incident in Punjab. Meanwhile, Dal Khalsa strongly denounced the assassination bid on Sikh preacher terming it a mindless act.
In a statement here, Outfit spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the attempt has created bad blood amongst the Sikh community. “The brazen violent attack on religious preacher aimed to snub his independent thoughts and beliefs shows how intolerant society we had developed”.
Expressing grief over the death of Baba Bhupinder Singh, he said unless the identity of the attackers are not known, it’s difficult to reach at the conclusion. He said the violent attack by three dozen people speaks of ineffectiveness of the intelligence set up of the state government that spends its entire energy and resources only to spy on ruling party’s political opponents and creating mistrust in their ranks.
Referring to the reports that alleged attackers had raised slogans in favour of Khalistan, he said Bhai Ranjit Singh was neither anti-Khalistani nor enemy of the Panth, instead he commands good respect within the community. He said cause of Khalistan had nothing to do with this shameful act.
