Chandigarh : Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday hit out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Aam Aadmi Party leaders for celebrating Congress’ poll debacle in five states and said they should rather worry about their own parties.
Reacting to Badal’s statement that the results in five states were the ‘last rites’ of the Congress, Captain Amarinder retorted, “The people of Punjab have already performed the last rites of your (Badal’s) party (Shiromani Akali Dal) and the government in the last year ... and the first death anniversary will be observed in February 2017.”
The PCC president took a jibe at Badal for seeking consolation from the victory of Trinamool Congress and AIADMK in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
“You don’t win elections by quoting examples of other parties from other states and drawing strong parallels as people will check your own balance-sheet, where you have nothing to claim credit for,” Capt Amarinder told the Chief Minister.
‘Will create body to monitor pvt schools if elected’
Amritsar: PCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday promised to set up a regulatory authority to monitor functioning of private schools in Punjab, if voted to power in the 2017 Assembly polls.
In a statement issued here, he said he had been approached by parents from across the state who sought his intervention to end the “loot and exploitation” by private school managements.
Maintaining that education reform was on the top of his agenda, the former CM said he would also ensure that private schools do not fleece poor parents. Singh said parents had complained to him about overcharging of fees and also collecting money under different heads like like annual charges, readmission, co-circular activities, smart classes, which was “illegal and unacceptable”.
