Abohar : Reacting sharply over Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s advice to approach court with documentary evidence to get foodgrain scam probed, Congress vice-president and chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar said the CM should shut all police stations if people have to go to courts for seeking action in scams. Billions of rupees were being spent on the police perhaps so that they could play puppets in the hands of the ruling SAD-BJP leaders, he alleged.
Badal had yesterday turned down the demand for physical verification of stocks in godowns and asked Jakhar to approach courts to get the “foodgrain scam” probed. Jakhar said the Reserve Bank of India had on October 1, 2015, indicated that foodgrain worth Rs 27,000 crore was missing from Punjab godowns but the CM was not even inclined towards getting even a physical verification done. This indicated that there was an official-politician unholy nexus, he alleged.
Seeking an explanation from Badal over the delay in payments to farmers and commission agents against wheat purchase, Jakhar said the state government had last year released data through newspapers about the purchase and payments made by the state and central agencies, so what prevented them from explaining the ground reality now, he asked.
He said, “The CM’s refusal for stock verification and advice to approach court vehemently indicates that the Vigilance Bureau has so far not acted on his complaint lodged in this connection at the Mohali police station on April 20 under the instructions from Badal. This, he said, was a violation of the directions issued by the SC about the registration of FIRs on all complaints.”
