Patiala : The leader of opposition in Punjab assembly, Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday announced that if police fails to release arrested Dalit people belonging to Balaad Kalan Village by June 1 than Punjab Congress will gherao Bhawanigarh police station.

Channi lashed on Akali Dal government and highlighted inhumane attitude of police with Dalit women and men who were protesting peacefully. He also demanded immediate registration of case against those police officials who were responsible for this untoward incident and assured people that Congress party will sit on protest with them until all their demands are accepted by the government.

Channi further said that one third of the panchayati land, which is for SC community of the village, should be given to them on reserve price and not through auction. He also mentioned that Congress will make a law for fixing land charges which is meant for SC’’s of the village.

He also blamed that the said land is taken by goons of ruling government in connivance with local authorities thus depriving the minority community of their fundamental rights. Leader of opposition asked Dalits to make a cooperative society and manage agriculture land together.

Channi also visited the injured in Rajendra Hospital on Thursday where suffered families narrated the atrocities committed by police.
