CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh has said the greatest achievement of the Narendra Modi government during the last two years has been that it has shown Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal his place and made to realise that the Congress, not the BJP, is the well-wisher of Punjab.

Taking a dig at his onetime poll rival Arun Jaitley, Amarinder said, “Two years have already passed since Jaitely took over as the finance minister and we are yet to receive the first instalment of truckload of money Badal promised Punjabis. The state has not even been getting the routine cash credit limit on time for payment to the farmers for their produce. It has only been two years of betrayal with farmers, ex-servicemen or common man across the country.”

“While there is little they expected from the Modi government, they are happy about the way he (Modi) has made Badal realise that it was actually the Congress government, led by Dr Manmohan Singh, at the Centre which cared about Punjab,’ he said in a statement.

Senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal said the Modi government had failed to create jobs for youth and the much-hyped Swachh Bharat Abhiyan had remained on paper.
