DW BUREAU / Chandigarh : Suggesting that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Sukhbir Badal should better resign, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday said that the father-son duo had completely abdicated the authority as there was complete breakdown of law and order in the state and it was heading towards anarchy.
Referring to Sukhbir’s statement that the two warring religious preachers Sant Ranjit Singh Dhadarianwale and Harnam Singh Dhuma should sort out the issue between themselves, Capt Amarinder said, “this amounts to total abdication of authority as it is not a mere dispute between the two religious preachers, but an issue of law and order where 40 rounds of ammunition were fired and one person lost his life”.
Referring to the incident of firing at Sant Dhadarianwale’s cavalcade, he pointed out, over two dozen people attacked him, firing 40 rounds and so far the police are still clueless. “Or is it because the Badals are trying to protect someone?” he asked, adding, “and the Deputy CM, who happens to be the Home Minister wants them to settle it between themselves”.
“If the warring factions have to be left to themselves then what is the role of the state and its home minister and the Chief Minister?” the PCC president asked, while pointing out, the state was already facing gang wars between various criminal gangs. “Should that mean those gangs should also be allowed to sort out the issues among themselves and make the police withdraw and turn Punjab into gang-lands?” he asked.
“While the senior Badal entertains himself in Sangat Darshans by holding medieval type darbars in villages befooling the innocent people by offering false hopes, the junior one is busy promoting and watching his personal business interests”, he observed, warning that such criminal negligence was pushing the state from lawlessness to anarchy.
