Chandigarh : The popular slogan “Bahari (outsider) versus Bihari” used by poll strategist Prashant Kishor for Janta Dal (United) candidate Nitish Kumar against Narendra Modi in the Bihar Assembly elections will now fuel the Punjab Congress election campaign against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) star campaigner Arvind Kejriwal, but in a re-structured manner.

In Punjab’s context, it would be “Bahari versus Punjab da Captain”. The entire campaign of Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh will be built around this slogan and a logo (sketch of a blue turban). “We are waiting for the right moment to launch the slogan. We will target AAP through the campaign,” said a source associated with the campaign.

Though senior Congress leaders have dismissed the surge of AAP saying it was on the decline, the party's strategy to target Kejriwal speaks otherwise.

He said voters were being reminded of Amarinder’s pro-people policies during his earlier stint 10 years ago. Party surveys have revealed that people do associate with Amarinder but no longer recall the works done by him. “Campaigns like ‘Coffee with Captain’ are aimed at reminding people of the pro-people steps taken by the party during its tenure,” he said.
