CHANDIGARH: After a lull in the party’s campaign following the US tour of state president Captain Amarinder Singh, the Congress will launch an intensive campaign covering all districts from June 6. The second leg of ‘Coffee with Captain’ to target youth, women, traders and farmers. HT FILE

A meeting of the newlyconstituted Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) will be held soon to finalise the programme. Party’s senior vicepresident Lal Singh said six teams comprising senior leaders and MLAs will be entrusted with responsibility of covering each of the 117 assembly segments in 45 days.

“One vice-president or general secretary will be in-charge of each district and each constituency will be covered by a team comprising PPCC general secretary, district Congress committee president and block presidents. Our workers will take the campaign right up to the booth level,” Lal Singh added.

While the party’s rank and file will reach out to voters in each constituency to counter the door-to-door campaign of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), party’s poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s team Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) will launch its second leg of “Coffee with Captain” to reach out to targeted audiences of youth, women, traders and farmers in reinvented formats.

Amarinder met more than 1,200 youth from across the 22 districts of Punjab appointed as college and city “captains” to work as party’s digital and volunteer army for the 2017 polls.

At the event organised on Sunday, they interacted with Amarinder and discussed ideas on party’s campaign during the 3-hour session and also participated in a training module on the campaign.

Replying to a question, Amarinder reaffirmed party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s promise and said he expected youth to get more than 35-40% tickets in the state polls.
