Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday said Chief Minister Parkash Badal Singh was “suffering from severe symptoms of selective dementia” as he had forgotten the present and was only brooding over the past.

“And that is the reason that rampant lawlessness and anarchy does not concern him as he seems to be blissfully unaware of whatever is happening around and still believes that Punjab is peaceful and prosperous,” he said.

“That is the reason he is not able to remember the recent killing of a policeman in broad day-light, attack on a religious preacher by over two dozen people, killing of the Namdhari Mata, shooting dead of a security guard of a bank in Moga,” Capt Amarinder said.

He said Badal would still “try to make us believe that Punjab is a completely peaceful state”.

Referring to the Chief Minister’s claim that Punjabis were prosperous and there were no drug addicts in the state, the PCC president said, “Again this is the symptom of senility and dementia as Badal does rightly remember that Punjab was prosperous, but forgets that it is not any more”.

He said almost every day there were reports of farmers committing suicide, gangsters killing each other and at times even policemen and youth dying of drug overdose and addiction, which has only gone up.

“And Badal has the audacity to describe all these happenings as petty incidents”, he said, adding “what is he waiting for to happen before he feels like taking some action.”

Meanwhile, over 1200 youths from 22 districts of Punjab met Amarinder here and pledged to support him and his vision for the state.

At an event organised by poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s team I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee), these youngsters, popularly known as college and city captains of their district, discussed ideas on how they could participate and contribute to Amarinder’s campaign for Punjab assembly polls 2017.

Addressing the students, Amarinder said “Youth will play a crucial role in deciding the political discourse. It is overwhelming to see such support from youngsters like you. I will not let you down or stop until I re-instill in the youth of Punjab faith in the system.
