Jalandhar : Senior Congress leader and party chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar on Sunday blamed Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of issuing ‘misleading advertisements’ to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government for saving the chair of his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the union Cabinet.
The ex-CLP leader while showing an advertisement released by the Punjab government claiming Rs 3,263 crore issued for the state by the NDA government in two years, said that this was a ‘bundle of lies’.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Jakhar raised question over the claims of the Badal government in the advertisement and said that over 80 pc of these development projects were sanctioned by the then UPA-II government in the 2012-13 Budget. “CM Badal claimed that the centre government released Rs 19,891.94 crore for road projects to Punjab but in a reply to a question raised by me on March 18 this year, they had shared that the total project cost was of Rs 16,514 crore”, he said.
“In their reply, Badal government claimed that they got Rs 1,600 crore for road project and Rs 223 crore for national highway maintenance. Badal should explain where were the remaining Rs 3300 crore?” he asked.
‘siropa’ issue
On the issue of denial of ‘siropa’ to the Chief Minister by SGPC sewadar Balbir Singh, Jakhar said, “Fakhar-e-Kaum’ should be awarded to the latter for taking such a step and sharing the sentiments of the common man.”
