Chandigarh : Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amarinder Singh has accused Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of political vendetta with regard to the summons issued by the ED for alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
He was addressing a press conference, along with senior leaders of the Congress. He also dared Jaitley to prove the allegations against him and his son.
“Jaitley asked one of the senior officers in the Finance Ministry to register a case against me within three months. But after three months the officer reverted back that he did not find anything against me,” said the party’s state chief.
Taking a jibe at the Union minister, Amarinder said that these repeated allegations at regular intervals only corroborate the former’s intentions and the mindset that he had not forgotten his defeat in Amritsar.
He further said that, “First it was my wife, then my son and now me. We are being targeted as elections are coming near. But I have full faith in the judicial system of our country.
Congress state wide Dharnas
Punjab Congress has announced the holding of state-wide dharnas on various issues in the month of June, which were discussed and given a final nod by the PPCC, in its meeting on Monday in Chandigarh. Addressing office-bearers, PPCC president Amarinder Singh asked them to get into battle gear as elections in Punjab could be preponed also and may be held in the month of December.
Earlier, Amarinder allocated duties to party general secretaries and vice-presidents for various districts and assembly segments. There will be one general secretary in-charge for each assembly segment while for each district there will be one vice-president.
The PPCC president also announced a 45-day public interaction program during which he will cover all 117 assembly segments. The interactive programs will start on June
24 and will conclude on August 8.
The PPCC president will lead three state-level dharnas across Punjab on June 8, 13 and 18 at Dinanagar in Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Lambi, respectively. The dharna at Dinanagar will be held on June 8 against the non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 200 crore to sugarcane growers.
On June 13, a state-level dharna will be staged in Jalandhar against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Rana Gurjeet Singh will be coordinator it.
A dharna will be staged at Lambi on June 18 against the multi-crore corruption scandal in recruitments where one of the Badals’ close aides has emerged as an accused. Manpreet Badal will be the coordinator for the dharna at Lambi.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Ambika Soni, Charanjit Singh Channi, Harish Chaudhary, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Raja Warring, Mamta Dutta, Laal Singh, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Chaudhary Santokh, Manpreet Badal, Sunil Jakhar, Mohinder Singh Kaypee and others.
Capt gives clean chit to Tytler
Chandigarh: Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, while responding to a question, on Monday denied that Congress leader Jagdish Tytler had any role in 1984 Sikh riots. He said that during four days--from November 1 to 4--he had heard the name of five leaders including HKL Bhagat, Sajjan Kumar, Lalit Maken and others from the commonman, but the name of Tytler did never come up. “I was in Delhi and I did not hear Tytler’s name from anybody that he was behind the killings of Sikhs in Delhi,” he said. It is worth mentioning that Capt has been accused of shielding Tytler from many times.
