Chandigarh : Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh today accused Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of targeting him and his family members through investigating agencies like the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that are controlled by him.

He was settling political vendetta against him and other senior Congress leaders like Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh, and former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Amarinder alleged. The PPCC president dared the Finance Minister to prove any charge against him and his family members.

He said the minister had also opened IT cases of his lawyer and senior Congress leader Rana Gurjit. “Just because Jaitely’s agencies accuse somebody with baseless charges does not mean the person is guilty,” he said at a press conference here today.

“All this is being done keeping in view the upcoming Assembly elections,” claimed Amarinder.

The former CM clarified that he never gave a clean chit to Jagdish Tytler. He reiterated that he had only said when he had met the victims of the anti-Sikh riots between November 1 and November 4 in 1984, “nobody mentioned Tytler’s name to me as accused. Only names mentioned were those of Sajjan Kumar, HKL Bhagat, Lalit Makhan, Dharam Dass Shastri and Arjan Dass.”

Duties allocated

The PPCC president allocated duties to the party general secretaries and vice-presidents for various districts and Assembly segments in a meeting here today. While there will be one general secretary incharge for each Assembly segment, for each district there will be one vice-president.

Meanwhile, Manpreet Badal and Hans Raj Hans shared the dias at the PPCCmeeting even as many senior leaders were seated among the audience.
