CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday alleged the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine has joined hands with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to target him ahead of the assembly polls in Punjab.

Captain was responding to the rival parties’ statements “celebrating” the income tax department and enforcement directorate’s summons to his son, which the former chief minister has alleged happened at the behest of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley.

The state Congress chief said while the SAD-BJP endorsement of Jaitley’s action was understandable, he was surprised and amused over the AAP’s stand. “The only conclusion that can be derived from the SAD-BJP and AAP finding a common cause is that these parties are scared of the Congress ahead of the elections in Punjab,” said Captain, adding, “The way the AAP is celebrating the ED notice to my son, it looks like Jaitley proposes and the AAP disposes.”

He said while the AAP had gone “overboard in supporting Jaitley’s mischievous action” against his son, it had accused the same minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of political vendetta when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had raided the office of Kejriwal’s principal secretary in connection with a corruption scandal last December.
