Bathinda : Questioning the honesty of the pro-farmer image of the state government, Congress legislator Sunil Jakhar today said it was shocking that CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal had not even reacted to mockery of the measly MSP hike of only Rs 60 per quintal for paddy.

It was a meagre 4.1 per cent increase as compared to the current inflation rate of 7.74 per cent. Based on inflation, the MSP should have been Rs 1,562 per quintal.

“First, the Agriculture Minister made fun of the farmers committing suicide and then at a function recently he spoke against farm loans and free power to farmers,” he added.

To top it all, the 4.1 per cent increase in the MSP is being called a big hike. Announcing benefits for farmers, the Modi government during its last three budgets has given only a 3.93 per cent increase in MSPs against more than 9.39 per cent during last three years of Congress government, said Sunil Jakhar.
