Now farmers to have ‘Coffee with Captain’

BATHINDA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh would now focus his campaign on farmers through his programme ‘Coffee with Captain’.
After the Congress’ protest at Lambi on the issue of alleged recruitment scam on Saturday, the state Congress president would be holding interaction programme with farmers in Bathinda.
Over 2,000 farmers, leaders, and also agriculture experts and scientists will be taking part in the event. Captain Amarinder has already held such programmes targeting youth in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Patiala and Amritsar, while one such programme with ex-servicemen was held in Pathankot.
The event being held in Bathinda, centre of Malwa region has importance as city has become the epicentre of protests, especially by various farmers’ unions on their demands.
Farmers under the banner of BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) are protesting here for past about four weeks demanding waiver of debt of farmers and farm labourers, survey of farm suicide victims from 1990 onwards, compensation at rate of `40,000 per acre for loss of cotton crop last year due to whitefly attack and policy to end farm suicides.
ETT TEACHERS TO JOIN AMARINDER DURING LAMBI PROTEST
Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) pass unemployed elementary teachers on Friday announced to join Captain Amarinder Singh’s program in Lambi on Saturday. Lambi is the assembly constituency of Parkash Singh Badal, Punjab’s Chief Minister.
The protest of ETT teachers’ from atop water tank at village Jai Singh Wala, entered into 26th day on Friday. The protesters are holding relay hunger strike, which has entered into its 10th day.
State union leader Amarjeet Kamboj said that the administration had promised them to arrange a meeting with the chief minister on June 16, which they are still awaiting. He added that they could also interrupt the sangat darshan programmes.
