Capt kicks off ‘Halke Vich Capt’ from Jalalabad

Jalalabad : Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh kickstarted his mega event ‘Halke Vich Captain’, officially sounding the poll bugle from Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s constituency Jalalabad on Sunday.
The event, which attracted more than 3,000 people, turned out to be chaotic and mismanaged even after being handled by a group of professionals. However, Captain after a two-hour long event of addressing the gathering personally interacted with local residents at ‘lokan da darbar’.
“I have come here to hear your problems, to discuss your issues and I request you all to share your problems. I will look into them,” he maintained.
The PPCC president also promised to set up a taskforce within 100 days of his government being elected to resolve the issues of common man.
Answering a question by a local resident on farmer’s suicide in the state, specifically taking plight of the residents of Pakkan village, where 57 debt-ridden farmers had committed suicide in the last six months, he promised that he would outlaw dispossession and auctioning of farmer land if he came to power.
Captain assured the contract labourers of Jalalabad that their housing issues would be resolved on priority by the task force he would set up.
Around 25 grievance desks were set up, where residents were asked to fill their concerns on a form. More that 2,800 grievances were received and an IVRS in his voice would be sent to all these people within 72 hours of submission.
‘Incidents like Lambi will not be tolerated’
Jalalabad: The PPCC president, Capt Amarinder Singh, said that incident of indiscipline, like the one that happened at the Lambi dharna, would not be tolerated by the party and strict action would be taken against party members who don’t abide by the party discipline, in Jalalabad on Sunday. He also announced that a block president in Lambi, who indulged in indiscipline during a protest had been suspended from the party.
Capt also announced that the list of candidates for the 2017 vidhan sabha elections would be announced six months prior to the elections. Answering a question asked by a mediaperson, he replied that the PPCC could only recommend names but the final decision was to be taken by the election committee of the Congress.
Commenting on allotment of tickets, he said that winability of a candidate would be the only criterion. He also expressed confidence that there would be no rebel in the party and the party would be united to defeat the Akalis.
He said that no party MLA would be given any chairmanship and these posts would only be reserved for those who would not get party tickets. “Only 117 will contest the election but there are many more who will be accommodated,” said Amarinder. Taking a jibe at Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, he said that Sukhbir was running away from Jalalabad constituency and exploring the opportunity to fight from Maur Mandi in Bathinda district.
