Reiterates his resolve to rid Punjab of drugs in four weeks
agraon : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Chief, Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday warned officials in police and civil administration against discriminating and victimising Congress workers. “It is matter of six months more when all those people responsible for persecuting Congress workers will face justice,” declared Capt Amarinder Singh after several party workers informed him about false police cases being registered against them on behest of an Akali leader.
Capt Amarinder was in Jagraon where he met over 2000 people and assured them of quick redressal within 100 days of his government formation. He stated that unemployment and drugs are the biggest problems being faced by people of Punjab. “Currently around 70 lakh youth of state are jobless and more than 70 per cent youngsters are addicted to drugs. After forming government in Punjab, Congress party would provide employment to youth, ” said former chief minister. He also reiterated his resolve to rid Punjab of drugs in four weeks after coming to power in the state.
While speaking on the issue of SYL, he said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was not in favour of getting SYL issue resolved in Punjab’s favour.
If SYL issue is settled in Punjab’s favour it does not suit Badal politically and he is deliberately trying to spoil the case to make political capital out of it stated Capt Amarinder.
‘CM not in favour of resolving SYL issue’
Jagraon : Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was not in favour of getting the SYL issue resolved in Punjab’s favour.
“If the SYL issue is settled in Punjab’s favour it will not suit Badal politically and he is deliberately trying to spoil the case to garner political capital out of it,” Amarinder told reporters after an interaction with party workers here.
At the same time, Capt Amarinder reiterated that he will go to any extent to save the Punjab’s waters even if the Supreme Court of India decided against Punjab. However, he appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to get the current water level in the rivers examined before pronouncing the final judgement as it could have far reaching consequences for Punjab.
Asked as what he meant by saying “going to any extent” if SC ruled against Punjab, Capt Amarinder clarified, “for me nothing is more sacrosanct and important than saving and safeguarding the Punjab’s water and I have done it earlier and I won’t hesitate in doing it again”.
The PPCC president made it categorically clear that the Congress party would support the government on the SYL issue.
Amarinder disagreed with the reports about the alleged presence of some Pakistani terrorists in Pathankot area. “This is quite an irresponsible statement whosoever has made it”, he said.
