Jalandhar : Former CLP leader and Punjab Congress Chief spokesperson on Thursday said that the meeting of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Cash Credit Limit (CCL) issue was not a formal meeting rather a ‘summoning’ of the state government in the food scam.
Jakhar said that the visit and the subsequent meeting of CM Badal had belied the claims of the Punjab government of getting a clean chit over the controversial issue of food grain scam. “If the Badal government was serious about the Rs 12,000 crore food grain scam, they could have taken up this issue with PM Modi during International Yoga Day event. Similarly, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitly too was here in Punjab recently but the Badal duo never took up this issue. Infact, they were summoned by PM Modi to explain their stand on the food grain scam”, he said.
The senior Congress leader maintained that after the controversy over the food grain scam in April, the Badals had claimed that they had got a clean chit but if it was so, then why were they appearing before the Centre government repeatedly.
Jakhar said that CM Badal has claimed that PM Modi has constituted a committee of senior officials to look into the CCL issue, which clearly proved that there was something fishy in the case. “Once again the stand of the Congress has vindicated that the Punjab government was responsible for the Rs 12,000 crore food grain scam. CM Badal should make it clear that when this issue of ‘CCL’ would come to an end finally”, he said, adding that earlier, it was pertaining to the wheat crop and now paddy.
Earlier, Jakhar also blamed Chief Minister of maintaining silence over the burning issue of ‘SYL Canal’ and said that he was doing this to avoid farmer’s agitation in the ongoing paddy season.
