BASSI PATHANA: Blaming chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Malerkotla sacrilege, state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday said it was a conspiracy at the behest of the Badals to disturb peace in Punjab ahead of the assembly elections.

Referring to the alleged desecration of the Quran at Malerkotla and subsequent police firing on Friday, Amarinder said there appeared to be a pattern in these incidents. Talking to reporters here, Amarinder said less than a year ago, Guru Granth Sahib was desecrated leading to protests and firing on people which killed two people in Bargari.

Now, pages of Quran were found torn and when people wanted to meet Akali MLA Farzana Nissara Khatoon, her husband Mohammad Izhar Alam, who is a former Punjab Police DGP (prisons), ordered firing on them. He said 90 rounds were fired in which two persons were injured. He also showed pictures of the injured to the media. “If a former DGP can order firing, how we can expect a fair probe in Bargari and Behbal Kalan incidents? he questioned.
