Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday welcomed the appointment of Asha Kumari as the AICC secretary in charge for Punjab. He said that he had agreed to her name with the full responsibility when he was asked about her appointment.

At the same time, Amarinder lashed out at the opposition parties for criticising her appointment, saying they should better introspect and look within before pointing fingers at the Congress. “It is a classic case of the kettle calling the pot black”, he remarked, while lambasting the Akalis, the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party leaders for their double standards.

“You better mind your own business and set your own house in order before worrying about what we do and do not do in the Congress”, he told the opposition leaders who are criticising her appointment, particularly the AAP, seven of whose MLAs are in jail for serious criminal charges ranging from corruption to outraging the modesty of women.

Referring to the case pending against Kumari, the PPCC president said, her conviction has been stayed by the High Court and the legal proceedings were going on, like in the case of BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Lashing out at the Akalis, he said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had no moral right to speak on the matter, since one of his own ministers, Tota Singh has been convicted of corruption and the president of the women’s wing of his party Istri Akali Dal, Bibi Jagir Kaur stands convicted of a more heinous crime related to the tragic disappearance of her own daughter, whole of Punjab knows, under what circumstances.

The former CM was in city to attend a workers’ meet of Ludhiana east constituency.

Speaking on the occasion, she asked party workers to work hard to form the Congress government in 2017. She further said that SAD-BJP front had failed on every front and it was high time for the Congress workers to show the door to the leaders of ruling party during the 2017 elections.

Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu also appealed the party workers for strengthening the party and to form government in the next Vidhan Sabha elections.

Bhattal comes to Asha’s defence

Ludhiana : After the SAD, BJP and AAP took on the Congress with regard to the appointment of Asha Kumari as incharge of Punjab Congress, former Chief Minister and senior party leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has come to her defence.

Hitting out at the SAD-BJP, Bhattal said that the leaders of ruling party should first come clean in the cases of drugs and scams and later level allegations against leaders of Congress.

Claiming that Himachal Pradesh leader Asha Kumari has no role in the land scam, she said that SAD-BJP leader had no right to level allegations against Congress leaders as they themselves were facing cases and allegations. She further clarified that Asha Kumari would not be replaced and would continue as incharge of Punjab Congress.

SOI targeted

Ludhiana: Former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu aimed their guns at SAD’s student wing after the district president of the wing Jeevan Kumar was arrested for giving shelter and support to gangster Gourav Kumar. Gourav was wanted in several cases of murder, attempt to murder, rape and others.

Bhattal said that the leaders of ruling party were encouraging criminals and case against SOI president proved the same. She said that after the Congress would come into power, the SOI and others leaders of the ruling party would be put behind bars for involvement in criminal activities.

Bittu demanded the dissolution of the SOI and asked the police to scan the role of SOI leaders.
