Abohar: Chief spokesperson of the Congress and Abohar MLA Sunil Jakhar on Thursday held a protest, along with other Congress workers outside the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDM) here. Jakhar alleged that Blue Cards of needy persons were not made by the government officials. Besides, the subsidised atta, dal and other facilities were not provided to the poor, needy and eligible persons, he added.

Punjab Congress vice-president said that he, along with other Congress workers, went to the office of the SDM, Rajpal Singh, to meet him. They wanted to give representation to him seeking facilities for the poor people. However, they found that the SDM was not present there. When they inquired about the SDM whereabouts from his staff, they were told that the SDM would come late.

Angry over not finding the SDM in his office, the protesters started raising slogans against the state government inside the SDM’s office. Even the protesters hanged one placard in the office of the SDM. The protesters reportedly controlled the office of the SDM for some time under the leadership of Sunil Jakhar.

Jakhar alleged that Blue Cards were being made for rich and the poor were being ignored. He said that the Congress had started the struggle from here and it would spread across the state soon against this type of government approach. He said that if the cards of poor and needy people would not be made then the Congress would approach the court.

The SDM said that he had not run away from office. This was a baseless charge and said that naib tehsildar had taken the charter of demands. He said that no permission was taken to hold dharna and protest.
