Punjab elections a challenge for Cong, says Asha Kumari

SHIMLA: All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and party affairs in-charge for Punjab Asha Kumari admitted that elections in Punjab were a challenge but said the party had a strong organisational setup.
Congress MLA and the party’s newly appointed Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari presiding over a meeting of party workers in Shimla on Monday.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by the Himachal Congress to felicitate her on Monday, the Congress leader said: “Our aim is to win elections in Punjab by dethroning the Akali-BJP government, which has been ruling the state for over nine years. The Punjab unit of the party has undertaken masscontact programme and the grassroots-level workers are being mobilised. The party has a strong organisational setup in Punjab.”
Denying reports of factionalism in the Punjab Congress, the Congress MLA from Dalhousie said: “There may be difference of opinion, but the all our senior leaders, including Captain Amarinder Singh, Ambika Soni, Partap Singh Bajwa and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, want to see the party will 2017 polls.”
Taking a jibe at Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal for his claim of winning Punjab elections, Asha said: “He should first concentrate of Delhi. He talks of eradicating corruption in Punjab when most of his MLAs have been booked on similar charges.
