PATIALA: Congress member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Patiala (rural) Brahm Mohindra held a show of strength by galvanising over 2,000 workers as part of the party’s ongoing outreach programme ahead of the coming assembly elections here on Monday.
During the function, the party’s senior leaders, including Lal Singh, HS Hanspal and Rana Gurjeet Singh endorsed Mohindra’s candidature and even assured to promote him to the cabinet if the party came to power.
The 69-year-old Mohindra took a dig at the state government by saying that the ruling alliance was not united but only fooling the people.
“SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal says that drugs are coming from across the border, while BJP leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu openly stated that drugs in Punjab are being ferried in red-beacon vehicles,” he added
He also attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that how can it talk of ethics when its own finance minister Arun Jaitley appeared as counsel for the Union Carbide, a company accused of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, which claimed thousands of innocent lives in the ’80s.
He said people of Punjab were upset with the present government and were ready to support the Congress under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh, who put the state on the path of development during his regime as chief minister.
Meanwhile, former Punjab Congress chief HS Hanspal urged workers to show unity to free the people of Punjab from the ‘misrule’ of the SAD-BJP alliance and dispel the people’s notion on the Aam Aadmi Party.
