Party leadership welcomes Asha Kumari as state affairs in-charge

Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as why was it scared of probe into the desecration of holy Quran in Malerkotla.

“Given the anarchic proclivities and subversive tendencies of the AAP, nothing can be ruled out at this stage”, he replied to a question over the suspicion of AAP’s Delhi MLA Naresh Yadav’s involvement in the sacrilege.

“If the party believes that its MLA who has emerged to be a prime suspect, was really innocent why it did not trust the courts?” Capt Amarinder asked in an informal interaction with media persons after welcoming the AICC Secretary in-charge for Punjab Asha Kumari at Punjab Congress Bhawan here.

Terming the incidents of sacrilege a serious issue needed to be addressed immediately, Amarinder further said: “In my opinion, whosoever is guilty, be one belong to BJP or AAP, should be put behind bars without any delay.”

Amarinder also took a dig at the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claims over honesty and integrity after his Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar was arrested by the CBI over corruption.

Replying to a question about the AAP’s manifesto, the PCC president reiterated that it was a carbon copy of what Congress has been announcing all along.

About the remarks of AAP leaders in which they allegedly compared its youth manifesto with Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib, Amarinder said: “We can’t tolerate this. Those who uttered this should tender apology or face the music.”

He also took exception to the photograph of broom over the Golden temple picture they used on the cover page of manifesto.

On being asked about ED summoning his son Raninder Singh, Amarinder said: “Currently he is out of the country but would definitely appear before the ED.”

While addressing the function organised to welcome the newly appointed Secretary in-charge Asha Kumari, Amarinder said, “I know her for a long time and her presence will strengthen the party.”

When questioned about her conviction in land grab case, Amarinder said; “Such cases have no meaning as I was also booked in two such cases.”

Speaking on the occasion, Asha Kumari said that she felt honoured and privileged to have been given an opportunity to work in Punjab. Asked about the challenges, Kumari said: “There is no challenge for us and the aim is clear that we have to win 2017 polls.”

She opted not to reply the query related to her conviction in the land grab case. About the meeting, she said that it was a welcome meeting which she attended with no major issues discussed among the party leaders on the occasion.

Prominent among those present included Ambika Soni, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Harish Chaudhry, Charanjit Singh Channi, Manish Tewari, Preneet Kaur, Laal Singh, Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Shamsher Singh Dullo, Santosh Chaudhry, Manpreet Badal, Sadhu Singh.
