Chandigarh : A day after CLP Charanjit Singh Channi objected to non-representation to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Backward Classes (BC) in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), he has now demanded due representation to the SC/ST in departments, boards and corporations.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Channi has stated that the population of SC/ST in Punjab was 35 per cent and that of OBC’s was 20 per cent. But the representation of these categories in government/ semi- government/corporations/ commissions/AG offices was negligible and these categories are not given top bureaucratic positions.
The manpower being outsourced by the government in different departments was also not being recruited according to the reservation policy.
“Your office sent two files to me regarding appointment of the two members each in PPSC and the Information Commission. Already the incumbents in both PPSC and Information Commission do not belong to reserved categories. And now also you have not recommended any name from these categories in both these departments.
