FATEHGARH SAHIB: Badals do not want to find a solution to the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) issue and are just raking it up before the elections to destabilise Punjab, said Congress spokesperson Sunil Jakhar, here on Friday.

“Badals are answerable to the people of Punjab. Instead of convincing the Prime Minister to clear his stand on the issue, they are asking people for sacrifice,” said Jakhar, terming it to be highly unethical.

“Why are they not ready to discuss the matter with the Union government?” asked Jakhar, who was here to condole the demise of MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra’s mother.

Jakhar said the state government did not bother to discuss the SYL issue with PM Narendra Modi when he was in Chandigarh for the “Yoga Festival”. “It’s obvious that they do not want a solution to this issue,” alleged Jakhar.

When asked if he had lost trust in the Supreme Court as he had announced to go on fast unto death, Jakhar said, “I have complete faith in the Supreme Court, but the matter can be resolved in much easier way by just taking back the presidential reference.”
