TARN TARAN: Congress member of parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu on Saturday said Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), that claims of being a representative of the Sikhs, has paid least attention towards the spread of Sikh ethos due to which the Sikh population has gone down in Punjab.

Addressing a gathering of Congress workers at Dhillon Resort here, Bittu said SAD has been controlling the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for long but it failed to curb the downfall in Sikh population many Sikhs are opting to join other faiths. “For its narrow political ends, the SAD did not bother about the propagation of Sikhism,” he said.
Speaking on the drug issue in Punjab, the MP said Congress would put the drug smugglers and traders behind bars within a week when it comes in power. “People of Punjab are waiting to give feedback to the SAD-BJP alliance for not delivering promises made before the elections. In view of mood of the people, the ruling alliance would face big loss in the upcoming elections,” Bittu added.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in his address, Shamsher Singh Dullo, former president of Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC), said some NRIs who are supporters of terrorism, funded AAP with a motive to revive militancy in Punjab. He said Congress will not allow them to disturb the atmosphere in the state.
Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, incharge of Tarn Taran district Congress, appealed the party workers to unite against the SAD-BJP to make the state free from the alliance. District president Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, former Khadoor Sahib MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki and former cabinet minister Dr Dharambir Singh Agnihotri also addressed the members.
