Condemns arrest of ‘ardasiya’
Over 4,000 people attend programme; 2,200 submit complaints
Malout : A ban on liquor was not feasible in Punjab. This was stated by Pardesh Congress chief Amarinder Singh on Friday. He also rejected comparing consumption of liquor with drugs.
Stating that banning liquor in Punjab was “neither feasible nor practicable”, he claimed that the states where prohibition was imposed, the exercise had not worked effectively and led to smuggling and production of illicit liquor. He said the sales of liquor was an important source of revenue for the state.
Addressing workers meeting and interacting with the people of Malout assembly segment during the ‘Halqe-Vich-Captain’, programme on Friday, the former Chief Minister underlined the need for reviving the agriculture in the state saying it will have an overall impact on economy.
He condemned the arrest of ‘ardasiya’ Balbir Singh, who had refused to offer “siropa” to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He said that it was a clear case of victimisation and vendetta done at the behest of Badal and the SGPC president Avatar Singh Makkar.
Replying to a question on the sorry plight of the farm labourers, he said it was important that the agriculture was provided some sort of stimulus.
Referring to ED notice to Raninder Singh, Capt Amarinder said that before leaving for Rio, he will make himself available to the ED.
