LUDHIANA: Former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal hit out at the SAD-BJP government for ‘neglecting development’ in Punjab’s rural areas.
Former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal adressing a rally in Ludhiana on Friday.
Addressing a rally at Model Gram on Friday, Bhattal said despite crores of financial aid in the last decade, there had been little development in rural areas of the state. She claimed that this aid was utilised for ‘other purposes’ by the Badal government.
The senior Congress leader said the conditions in most villages were so pathetic that people were deprived of basic facilities including sewerage, repairing of roads, water supply, and hygiene. She further said the Badal government’s popularity was at a low for its non-performance, corrupt practices, fiscal mismanagement and a botched law and order situation in the state.
Bhattal said growing unemployment was a ticking bomb, stressing that a large number of youth in the state were jobless due to wrong policies of the Akalis.
Bhattal said the Badal government was also suffering from policy paralysis that had impeded the growth in industrial sector and agriculture, among others. People were aware of the misdeeds of the government and were ready to be shot of them, she added.
She further claimed that only Congress could provide a stable government to Punjab, adding that if the party came to power, it will work for the welfare of all sections of society and review all the wrong decisions made by the Akalis.
